RSR Research report published on Pricing and Promotions

 The Retail Systems Research organisation have published their latest report entitled "Emerging Best Practices in Localised Pricing and Promotions".

The report focuses on the challenges have in improving margins in a market where consumers are increasingly price sensitive. The conclusion is that retailers can capitalise on this and use it as an opportunity, but must be ready to provide localised pricing, and need process and I.T. tools to achieve this.

The key highlights from the report are summarised below:

  • 55% feel pressure on pricing this year
  • 50% have a strategy for pricing which combines Every Day Low Prices (EDLP), key-item pricing and hi/lo promotions
  • 67% said that rules based pricing is highly valuable - especially in resolving promotional conflicts
  • 71% will focus on price optimisation in 2009
