A major grocery chain had developed a highly successful store-based, customer loyalty scheme and also had a major on-line presence. However, they were unable to extend their loyalty scheme for on-line customers. The idea of creating a separate scheme was both an expensive proposition and alien to their drive to create an integrated, multi-channel shopping model.
