Tesco.com and IVIS Group .NET Migration

IVIS Group is delighted to be working with Tesco.com in supporting their migration to the .NET environment.

April 2003 - IVIS Group, based in Ealing, west London, has been working with Tesco.com since its inception, playing the role of architect and development partner.

The Tesco.com architecture has always been based on Microsoft technology, initially com+ and now migrating to .NET. The appeal of the new environment from Microsoft is in the combination of rapid development, scalable and yet inexpensive platform to create powerful enterprise solutions.

IVIS' has always been at the forefront of technology developments, having recommended to Tesco.com to use XML when it was still in its infancy, and in creating applications based on Web Services before the term was even thought of. Adopting .NET was a logical progression and IVIS has been working with Tesco.com with the migration of its architecture to .NET, through training and awareness programmes, architecture and development assistance.

A new .NET product from IVIS Group
The .NET development environment has also helped IVIS to expand into product development, a venture which will soon see the launch of Sonetto?. Sonetto is a data enrichment and categorisation tool for e-commerce that uses state of the art semantic web technologies.

"Sonetto will unlock the potential within product data and greatly enhance the possibilities for web merchandising" said Sarraf "We started development using the J2EE platform but had to change due to cost and lack of productivity. .NET and Visual Studio have been a great help for us. We needed an Object Based (OO) environment without losing the productivity we were used to from Microsoft. We chose to develop in C# in Visual Studio and it has delivered on both fronts. As a testimony to the rich OO features, we have been hiring J2EE developers to work with .NET, given their OO skills and their response has been very positive".
